From Michael San Filippo, your Guide to Italian
Caro Lettore,

Welcome to this week's edition of your About.com Italian Language Newsletter! "The Italian language is untouchable." That was the reaction of Alessandro Masi, director of the Società Dante Alighieri, to the recent European Commission proposal to eliminate Italian and Spanish from EU-issued drivers licenses.

In the About.com Italian Language forums there's a discussion about the term for skipping school, and a community member counts his money (is it denaro, soldi, or contanti?). There's a lesson on indirect object pronouns (i pronomi indiretti), and a conjugation table for the verb contrarre. Plus, listen to an audio phrasebook with vocabulary related to the barber shop (dal barbiere).

Speaking Italian With Your Hands
Italians use body language and hand gestures to punctuate an expression and give it a shading that the word or phrase itself lacks.
